Problems
- Because rolling processes are performed while applying rolling mill water, moisture and foreign matter enter the bearing.
- Foreign matter that enters the bearing can cause damage such as internal flaking or rust, in turn damaging the bearing and causing its service life to be shortened.
-
Solutions
- Development of bearings with high sealing performance that can withstand harsh environments
- Improved high-rigidity seal plates
- Rubber mold on the outer circumference of the shield to minimize clearance
Achievements
- We have succeeded in suppressing the intrusion of rolling mill water and foreign matter by 96%!
- We have improved bearing service life while achieving stable operation.

Significant effects can be seen when performing periodic maintenance,
with cleanup times being shortened to 80% of the conventional one!
The tip of the shield is protected by a rubber material that improves safety by protecting fingertips from injury during cleanup.
A Message from JTEKT

Through development performed with our group company, JTEKT Sealing Techno Corporation, we achieved the ideal clearance around the outer circumference of the shield, as well as a mold shape that does not reduce productivity.

Product
Bearings for multi-roll mill backup rolls have their outer diameter in direct contact with the intermediate roll and rotate while applying rolling force. Therefore, the outer ring must have sufficient rigidity, fatigue strength, and high precision. JTEKT uses a uniquely developed steel and cored hardening for the outer ring, achieving both high rigidity and long service life. Furthermore, we also offer a premium specification for oil mist lubrication, with a case-hardened steel inner ring and fluororubber oil seal for an even longer service life.
