Bearings for Use in Transmissions and Differential Gears

Bearings for Transmissions

Bearings for Transmissions Contribute to Lower Fuel Consumption

The transmission is a device that converts the driving force from the engine into the optimal driving force for driving and transmits it to the wheels. Various different types of bearings are used together, each utilizing its own strength, and inside the individual components of a car there are also a great many bearings in use. Our bearings are provided with measures against gear wear and the like, for long service life even in dirty oil, and the low-friction torque contributes to lower fuel consumption.

Functions Required of Bearings and
the Transmission Structure

In the transmission, many different types of bearings are working together, each utilizing its own strength, and inside the individual components of a car there are also a great many bearings in use.
The oil that lubricates the bearings inside the transmission becomes contaminated by dust from the wear of the gears, so bearings must be resistant to contaminants. Bearings also need to be low-friction torque, to allow for lower fuel consumption.

What Are Transmission Bearings?

Structure

Please see the following pages for information on the main types of bearings:

Features

  • 1.By using heat treatment(KE bearings and SH bearings)and bearing materials that are resistant to contaminants included in dirty oil, or by preventing the entry of contaminants by the use of sealed bearings, longer service life is achieved.
  • 2.Because low-torque bearings, which reduce the loss of driving force, are used, this contributes further to lower fuel consumption.
  • 3.JTEKT analyzes the rigidity of the entire transmission system, including the shaft and housing, and proposes the optimal, compact, lightweight bearing that takes the deflection of the shaft into account.

Bearings for Differential Gears

Bearings for Differential Gears Reduce Loss of Driving Force

The differential gear is a device that converts the driving force from the transmission into even greater driving force and allows for different numbers of rotations for the left and right wheels. Our bearings are provided with measures against gear wear and the like, for long service life even in dirty oil, and by providing low-friction torque tapered roller bearings, which allow for an extremely small loss of driving force during rotation, JTEKT is contributing significantly to a reduction in CO2 emissions from cars.

Structure

In order to improve the rigidity of the device, generally two tapered roller bearings are combined on the pinion shaft to apply the preload. By using tapered roller bearings, which have a wide contact angle, interconnecting displacement is suppressed.

  • 2.JTEKT provides the best low-friction torque tapered roller bearings in the world (the LFT® series), which allow for an extremely small loss of driving force during rotation.
  • 3.JTEKT analyzes the rigidity of the entire differential gear system, including the shaft and housing, and proposes the optimal, compact, lightweight bearing that takes the deflection of the shaft into account.
